The Story You Know,

Told In A Way You Never Imagined

We are proud to announce that Walled Lake Western is presenting, for the second time,  A CHRISTMAS CAROL, THE MUSICAL!  Five years ago we produced this show as a WORLD PREMIERE in high school theater!  We felt it was time to bring it back and share it with our community again.

With a score by Alan Menken (Little Shop of Horrors, Aladdin, Beauty & the Beast) and Lynn Ahrens (Ragtime, The Musical, Once On This Island), and a book by Lynn Ahrens and Mike Okrent, this is the classic version of A CHRISTMAS CAROL that has become an annual Holiday Treat at the Radio City Music Hall Theatre At Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The book by Mike Okrent and Lynn Ahrens is character-driven, and all of the featured roles are developed to give performers many chances to shine. Of course, at the center of the piece is Ebenezer Scrooge himself, taken from the pages of Dickens' immortal tale.  The full company acts as an ensemble throughout.  Many actors playing many different roles provides for a great theatrical experience for the actor as well as the audience member.  The orchestra is a demanding but musically delightful score.

The technical crew will enjoy the demands of a brilliantly designed set with plenty of special effects for all.  The show promises to keep you the edge of your seat during the entire time.  From ghosts from that past that fly, three different kinds of fog and atmospheric effects and then a grande finale that has a full snow storm tha will fall over the entire audience.  This will be a version of the famous "Scrooge" story that you will never forget.

There are many adaptations of A Christmas Carol out there, but only one Broadway musical version! We want to encourage families with children to attend.  This is a great way to let your children experience near professional theater without the high price of a professional theater ticket.  With the length of the show coming in at a little over 100 minutes, it's a great length for children as well.  So now, the same holiday treat that has thrilled New York City audiences for ten years will delight our audience here at Walled Lake Western.

Yes.  Charles Dickens wrote the original story.  Many of you will remember reading it, seeing it on film or stage.  But now we will tell you this story in a way that you never imagined.

Yes.  It takes place at Christmas time in jolly ol' London Town.  But more than that, it's about CHANGE.  A person, has a choice to decide what he wanted to do with his life.  He was as miserable as he could be.

Get ready for flying ghosts!  The town of Old London, wrapped around the theater, coming to life before your very eyes.  A Christmas eve snowfall over the entire audience.

This is a great way to kick off your holidays as a family and friends.  What a great way for children to experience their first "live" theater.

In case you are wondering what people said about our first production of the show...

"This was for sure, the best show at WLW yet!

"It was non-stop excitement!  I thought it might just be another version of the classic Scrooge story...but within minutes, we knew we were in for a treat!"

"I've never seen such a professional production at a high school before.  Simply amazing!"

"The flying scene, the snowfall, the dancing and singing!  What more could an audience ask for?!"

"You made me smile and cry so many times, I lost track!"

"After seeing Les Miserables 2 years ago, I thought you would never top it...but it looks like Les Mis has met it's theatrical match!  The entire was production was beyond belief, and to think it was performed by high school students.  And then there was the set...!"

"The sets, costumes and effects made me feel like I was at the Fisher Theater, not at a high school!"

"I'm coming back, and this time I'm bringing a whole bunch of friends.  They will never believe what I experienced tonight!"

"This is NOT just another 'Scrooge play' or the same ol' same ol' Christmas Carol that plays every year at theaters in the area.  I could tell from what I saw that this musical adaptation of the play was direct from New York City.  I just couldn't believe that it was all high school students performing it!"

"As the giant houses and set pieces moved around the stage, I thought of beautiful choreography.  Amazing work, and to think, these kids are NOT at a private performing arts school.  Bravo to all involved!"
