We would like to let you know about what 'being in choir' means at WL Western. It's a big part of hundreds of students lives. It's something that they do everyday as a class, but also, it's something that they do because it's something that brings them great satisfaction and because they love it.

Meanwhile, if you have any questions, please feel free to email me. I'd be glad to chat about your thoughts, your scheduling problems and whatever else you have in mind. Remember that you are able to take 6 classes during the year at Western. This might cause some problems for some of you. If so, please contact me and I'll help you sort it out. I'm a pro at this kind of thing now.
In case you need to, I'd be glad to put you in touch with some parents of current Western students. Some parents who have been able to creatively assist their own children in finding a way to fit all the needed classes in to their schedule, PLUS find a way to allow them to be a member of a Western choir!

Frequently Asked Questions
1 Can students join choir and take a foreign language or other elective classes? YES - most do!
2 Can students take A.P. classes, art and P.E. classes, and even advanced weights if they are in choir? YES - many do!
3 Do students have to audition for either of the 9th grade choirs? A music teacher recommendation or a live interview is required. Come talk to me if you have questions.
4 Can students become a member of the choir even if they can't read music? Yes, we will learn how read and sing new music together!
5 Can students be in choir and also in band, orchestra or acting while in 9th grade? YES - many do!
6 Does a student need to have the best voice in the school to sing in choir? NO - we work as a team!
7 Does a student have to sing a solo in public if they are a member of a WLW choir? NO - but might be interested in trying!
8 Does a student have to work hard if they are a member of a WLW choir? YES - it's all about excellence here at WLW!
9 Do students have to attend concerts outside of the regular school day as a requirement of choir? YES - you will always have months to plan for these. In fact they are on the calendar now!

Can students voluntarily participate in a few or lots of extra vocal
music activities if interested? YES - as much as they would like to!
